LE Injection was used on Opel 2.0Ls in Europe during the early 80s'. Obviously US Opel owners never saw it as Opel quit importing in 1975. In 1975 Opel owners did get the initial older L-Jetronic. This swap is between European LE and Us LU injection parts.

LU-Jetronic is a refinement of L-Jetronic, used in few cars in the U.S. In fact, the U stands for U.S.; it is a lambda-control version of a refined Jetronic used in Europe: LE-Jetronic. Its main features are optimized circuitry in the control unit, and a
start control system. The control unit is analog.

You'll find it in:

1983-1985 BMW 318i, used before switching to Motronic (which is a further digital upgrade of the analog L-jetronic injection)

1983-84 California AMC / Renault Alliances when the Bendix central fuel-injection system system could not meet California emission limits

It would seem from the use of the LE in Europe was used on the more pedestrian of cars. I believe as a way to make it cheaper. In the case of the Opel 2.0L system, the did not even include Lambda control via a O2 sensor, as the LU injections did in the US. That said, the BMW 318i computer apparently does not need the 02 input to run as I have swapped my Opel computer for a BMW one.
