Last call for for getting passes for the 2024 Opel Nationals at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, April 5th, 6th and 7th. I need to know by Wednesday, February 14th as I have to let the Speedway know how many cars we plan to show, by the 16th. Let me know ASAP if you want to attend. The Spring AutoFair is the "BIG" show of the two AutoFair's each year. This is a show you really don'y want to miss.

Only 8 more days for you to let me know if you plan to attend the Opel Nationals AutoFair at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. I need to know ASAP so I can put in for your passes. The cost is $30 for all for days. This will get your Opel and two people onto the show field for all four days or just one day. Whatever you decide you want to do. Hope to see you there!
As a reminder, I need to know if you plan to attend the show by February 15th, at the latest. I can't guarantee you will get passes to be on the showfield with your Opel if I don't hear from you.
I'm going to check on a few more hotels today to see if I can get a decent club rate. As I said before, the hotels near the speedway aren't discounting anything for the weekend of the AutoFair. The one that did give us a rate was unacceptable. Probably the best bet is to go on a hotel discount site such as Travelocity or Expedia to get a room. A few people have already signed up at the Holiday Inn Express on 7772 Gateway Lane, Concord, NC 28027. I just checked the price at Hotels.com and it says $197 a night.

Hotel Update:
After speaking to a couple of hotels near the speedway this morning, it seems the hotels are not going to give out "group rates". The reason is they say the Spring AutoFair is a "Big" show and the hotels fill up without giving out group rates. It sucks but it is what it is. The Spring AutoFair is the biggest and best of the Spring and Fall AutoFairs. The hotels know it.
They suggested you go ahead and call the hotel you want to stay at and reserve a room as soon as possible. The Holiday Inn Express is $183 per night, which is $26 a night cheaper than the Hilton Garden Inn that we stayed at 4 years ago.
These higher rates are higher nearest to the speedway. There are other hotels a few exits up Interstate 85 that you could check.
If I can help you out with picking out a hotel, let me know at CarolinaOpelClub@aol.com. I'll keep looking but as of right now, you probably need to go ahead and call to get a room.
Hotel row at the speedway is on Gateway Lane NW, Concord, NC 28027. There are a lot of restaurants within walking distance near the hotels.
Update on the Opel Nationals in April, 2024. The AutoFair dates are April 4th thru the 7th. The "Big" show date is Saturday, April 6th. Of course, you can attend all four days if you want to. the AutoFair awards is usually on Sunday at the Spring event. We will have our own awards as well as the AutoFair awards! I know some of you will want to leave on Sunday morning, which is fine. If you win an award and you've already left, I'll make sure you receive your award through the mail. Or maybe I can bring it to you at Carlisle in May if you attend the Carlisle show.
The cost is $20 per car. That will get your Opel and two people onto the showfield for all four days or just one day. Pretty good deal! I would just need to know what days you plan to attend in order to get the passes for you. More on that later.
I will be setting up the hotel in the next few weeks. We plan to go to a restaurant Saturday evening very close to the hotel so it will be convenient for everyone.
I am working on getting a local band (three or four guys) to come by and play for us at the hotel after dinner Saturday evening. Not sure yet I can get the guys but I'm trying. They are more of a "sit down" band while they play. Very good.
Of the two AutoFair's each year, Spring and Fall, the Spring one is the largest and best. You had better bring walking shoes if you want to check out the whole show!

The Spring AutoFair is a great show. It would take a minimum of 2 full days to see all the vendors inside and outside of the speedway.
54 Car clubs will be there, including ours! So every kind of car, especially muscle cars, will be showing. When the weather is great, over 100,000 people walk through the gate throughout the four day show.

The 2019 Opel Nationals will be held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 18th and 19th. Saturday, the 19th will be the main show day!
There is a $10 registration fee which you will need to pay to me and I will then turn these fees over to the speedway. They use these fees to get a car count and to help pay for the trophies which are really sweet awards. The $10 will get you into the speedway AutoFair on Friday and Saturday. No other costs.
You will receive a windshield sticker for your Opel and two people passes to get into the show Friday and Saturday.
You can PayPal me the $10 to Ooooner@aol.com (O's,n to zeros in Ooooner). Be sure to send to "Friends" on PayPal or PayPal will take a fee out of the $10. Or you can just mail me a check to: Roy Bell, 9006 Concord, North Carolina 28027.
The registration fee must be paid by September 14th.
If you are to be included in the Showcase Pavilion, you do not need to pay the registration fee.

A lot of pre planning has been going on behind the scenes as we want to make sure this will be one of the best Opel National Events you could attend!
The hotel has been set up with 25 rooms blocked off for the Opel Club. The hotel is the Hilton Garden Inn in Concord, North Carolina. The hotel is less than a mile from the event at the Speedway. Cost per night is $139, which is a reduced rate from $179. $40 savings. You can either call the hotel directly at (704) 979-2900 or go to the Opel Club reservation link: https://hiltongardeninn.hilton.com/en/gi/groups/p…ml?WT.mc_id=POG If you call, be sure you tell them that you want to reserve a room for the Opel Car Club. Rooms have been set aside for October 18th and 19th with check out on Sunday, the 20th. The hotel has a fantastic breakfast that is $9.95 for all you can eat.
The last day you can get the reduced rate at the hotel is September 18th. After that, the rooms will be released back to the general public at their normal rates.
The parking lot is very large with plenty of parking for trailers. I was told that we really needed a larger parking lot to accommodate trailers as the other hotel parking lot was really too small. I agreed.
There will be an auction on Saturday evening with proceeds after expenses going to The Make-A-Wish Foundation.
We are also planning on a small band to play Saturday evening. These guys are really good and you will enjoy their music.
I’m still working with the AutoFair people on where we will be located inside the speedway. I’m thinking we will be placed in a prime location for maximum exposure.

This will be the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Opel GT!
The actual show date is Saturday, October 19th. No Sunday show. The Saturday show will run longer and the overall AutoFair awards will be held under the lights in the NASCAR winners circle!
A lot of planning has already been done behind the scenes with the speedway officials. Things could change but as of right now, we will be located beside the "Showcase Pavilion" where really cool cars are shown at each AutoFair. This is notable because it looks like we may be invited to show 4 or 5 of out best Opel's inside the Showcase Pavilion. I would like to see an excellent example of a GT (preferably a 1969), Kadet, Manta, etc.
Hotel information will be coming very soon. There will be a club "rate". If you have any suggestions on hotels, please post on here. We usually had been staying at the Holiday Inn Express. I believe they just upgraded their rooms a few months ago.
Also in the works: A band will play at either our location inside the speedway during the day or at our hotel on the evening of the 19th. Three of the guys will play for us and believe me, just the three of them are good.

I registered three Opel's a few weeks ago at the discounted price! Two GT's and a wagon!
Im at the point where I just want to enjoy the Opel site and not worry about people's petty feelings getting hurt or weird people lurking around. I am going to start using this site more and more and use OpelGTdotcom for research only. I've been pondering about moving over here but now it's official!
