I'm running Redline Oils in my Transmission and Rear Diff. Great Stuff..
I have been using this oil in the Diff. the last year with no problems.
Very High Viscosity rated over 250 and High Temperature rating
It's red in color and you'll know if you have a leak .. Recommended by the Opel community
If you can buy in a Speed shop ECS for less.....Etc saves you shipping costs, FWIW

But I got tired of sending parts back and forth to Vendors... Found a local Speed Shop with some cool dudes that knew a lot .. the Audi lines are Bubble Flare and the Opel Lines Are Double Flare and will surely leak.. " Did Nor Know This"" Mum.. Pictured is the Rubber lines ..until one day when I decided to go SS Braided Lines .. This will work for a while with no problems... I ' am trying out some new Track Rod Bars that people tell me are better than stock. Post Pics. later ..
so I'll be using my "" Very Strong S t o c k Trailing Arms "" And They L Q Q K pretty powder coat too Tested strong
Than King Kong Trailing Arms Coming soon to a Garage near me..LOL Stock arms with Rubber Bushings For Now!!! until all the other parts, spacers etc. parts arrive..Statement
Most Stock Trailing Arms are Rusting from inside out..and made of poor rolled steel..
it is recommended that """ All Opel GT Trailing Arms be Replaced for Safety Reasons""".. Internal Rust.. poor construction Rolled steel

Here is an Update to this project ..that got a little out of a hand.... Life's Moments
I got the rear end Back from the Rebuilder and started installing the axles with the axle shims and new Rear discs Spacers... The kit comes with Nice water jet cut steel laser perfect... Made a pattern for Gary and noted thickness.. It's starting to come together... The Brake Lines have been trouble.. .. -
""Nice"" Every year in May Old timer Opels. Come Out to show... Funny thing...that I only see one GT in the Photo
-
Started to Install the German Exhaust... getting the old head pipe down and I will post more pictures when I get more work done...
-
Thanks Gary, The Vent arrived Today, That part should be added to the ""rare"" part list..so hard to find an exact match. Thanks Again
I've been keeping busy while am waiting for the rear to come back with the repaired bearings and gears, then I'll be able to assembly everything, and maybe drive this spring.
I've cleaned and re-under coated the bottom, Installed the rear sway bar and started to install the red Koni's I also Installed the front Big Brakes to the front wqth new SS braided hoses. that came off the Blue GT. My plans are to eventually , replace new bigger master cyl. and booster then replace the hard brake lines.
Also going to replace the complete Exhaust with a 2" SS German system... My winter project ..need to get my butt going... -
I am Now waiting for all the parts to arrive.. from the vendors... sometime this can be a painful experience if parts are held up. Am in the process of undercoating the rear body since all the rear components are now removed..Easier to paint I'll be using a Truck bed liner coating to protect the bottom.
Messy job.. and I'll post some photo's laterThanks Gary, I'll send over my address ... But good to know the Auto Tranny vents work too
We should buy a bunch I know we sometimes "All"" we Need a new vent.
We pressed the axle bearings onto the shafts with the retainer plates properly positioned and Dust Shield Into Jeff's Homemade Axle Press
It a bit to align everything up before using small bottle jack to press.I have a good friend Chris who going to help me with the Gear setup install checkout and that will take some time to Go over everything.
I'll be using the Rubber Bushings for Track Rods and Pan H. Rod bar Koni Shocks (Reds)
The Rear Brakes will be Disc Brakes Using VW Calipers and special rotor .. From a German Kit. Nice BracketsSo still need to figure out how to attach a brake line bracket to hold the flexi line each tube to each Caliper... Hose Clamps? Bracket?
and need to extend the Brake Cable tensioner Rod ?? -
Am in the process of cleaning out the Housing and tubes inside the diif box...
Am using a Brake cylinder Hone to try and remove the rust / corrosion that ac-cured on one side tube.
Norbert said that the rust came from the broken Diff. Vent ( that had broken off and I couldn't find a replacement that fit properly ) That let water and moisture inside the diff. and probably caused the corrosion / Rust... need to research and find a couple for my GT's now

Hey Thanks Yellow73 GT...Hey your avatar is Blue.... Hey Blue73 GT Just kidding
I was wondering when someone was going to chime in... You have to start some time her..and get use to the lay out... so far this forum is cool.. I be here
So to update this thread.. Am decided to Mod. the rear brakes too. I have a local friend chris who has the factory Rear Diff. tools to help me set up the Gears... am waiting for the Disc Brake pkg to come from Germany
I'am not sure weather I should Mod. make a dust shield for the rotor at the axle tubes.. others have left it off/missing
So it would effect the Rear Disc brakes while driving in the rain.. late brake grab... and the only time I drive in the rain is coming home from Carlisle LOL -
Today I took the housing to clean out all the debrie ..I found that one side (left ) axle tube has a small amount of corrosion inside .. after a little consulting was told to try and hone the rust out w/drill clean out the diif. box (pumpkin ) Also if you look at the photo's the spider gears and ring and pinion gears are Crap.. these four gears are too worn... looking though my parts Bin.. I found another set with matching numbers, If you look at the spare carrier someone replace ring and pinion as you see thread sealer on bolts.. I have another Opel friend Chris that will help me with the setup of the gears, as he done it before ..a couple times.. Stay tuned for more ... I hope to see more posts here...

Next was to disassembly the gears from inside the rear housing and then I'll clean the debrie from the axle tubes and sump.. for then it's off to the Powder Coat Shop.
Am not exactly sure what was making the noise.. as the gear look a bit worn.. I think it was the pinion bearings and outer and inner races look worn and scored... I hope that it??Now that it's all apart I'll need to bang out the inner and outer pinion races... and I guess carefully tap the new races into place...Opel Manual says to use a special installer??
The carrier unit will need a special type of puller to remove the carrier Bearings too..I think??See the gears below are Crap/ Trashed / worn out / going to find my extra Ring and Pinion from my spare parts Bin
Than everything off to the Powder Coat shop
Stay Tuned for more....
I hope someone is reading this

I'm back to add more to my Thread. I Have the rearend taken out of my GT. I got a lot of Help from
( markandson) and we did a lot last Saturday in his Welding Shop.
I first located where the rear sway bar brackets were going to be welded to the axle tubes, then I got a flapper disc on my grinder and grinder off the paint.
Jeff had made a Jig to hold the rearend so the sway bar bracket could be installed properly and evenly to both axle tubes. Then he worked his magic and the bracket were installed...took a while to get the rear located into the welding Jig
Take Look
Axle bearing removal.. first remove the retainer ..notch with a chisel and retainers came right off
Then we removed the axle bearings from the two axles using a Home made Press made of flat bar and a jack screw.
with a Flange Bearing puller clamp attach to end .. Jeff's design. Took a two men operation but off came the axle bearings and the retainer plates. Was hard to take a photo.. with our hand full LOL The two plates on each side and the axle flanges will be powder coated too, before installation of the new bearings -
Hans , I think you have to click on the Image Gallery, then contest/ Go to the bottom of that page and ,, then upload a photo.. after you Upload then click contest at the top right corner with the trophy and you should be done

The world is a funny place.. could use a little fun and a couple of laughs... be it car related or not
What are your feedback on this ???An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years.
He
had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so
he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some
apple, and peach trees. One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while, and look it over.
He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.
As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee.
As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond.
He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end.
One of the women shouted to him, 'we're not coming out until you leave!'
The old man frowned, 'I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked.'
Holding the bucket up he said,
'I'm here to feed the alligator...'
Some old men can still think fast. -

Gary, I was also wondering if you need to make the wheel studs longer using 15" wheels
also will need to make flex line brackets (2)
and mod, e-brake lever threaded bolt rod longer and new e-brake cables// brackets too.
Not sure if I can get all these parts in the states from aftermarket VW vendors
Thinking about the German kit.. complete LQQKS nice
What do you think
