  • 2017 Grand Prix Festival of Watkins Glen Featuring Cars of Germany (http://www.grandprixfestival.com)

For 2017, the Grand Prix Festival of Watkins Glen will feature Vintage and Sporting Marques of the Autobahn. All Opel owners are invited to bring their cars to this great automotive event. We are limiting the event to pre-1980 vehicles, and are hoping to attract some of the less-well-represented marques. Since BMW and Porsche have been featured in previous years, we are excluding those marques from this event in the hope of seeing some of the many other German vehicles manufactured over the years.

The event is held on the Friday of the SVRA vintage race weekend at Watkins Glen International Race Track - Friday after Labor Day. This is a driver's event - the cars are the show!!

Here is a short review of event day:

Beginning with registration at Chateau Lafayette Reneau Winery at about 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017, participants will enjoy a real driving enthusiast’s day from the 9:30 a.m. drivers' meeting prior to the rally, to brunch at Watkins Glen International around 11 a.m. followed by laps on the WGI race track, to laps of the Original Road Course, finishing with display parking at LaFayette Park. This is also the site of the Legends Speak forum discussions, and only a block away from the rest of the action on Franklin Street, which continues with laps of the remaining Stone Bridge Driver events, then the 4:30 p.m. arrival of the SVRA Heritage cars for their laps and display parking. The evening activities culminate in a fireworks display at Watkins Glen State Park, the site of Concours de Elegance.

Please check out the website (http://www.grandprixfestival.com) for information on the entire day's events. Or, contact me directly for information and details (alfagirl56@gmail.com; 607-243-7845 evenings).

I would very much appreciate hearing from you as to whether your membership might have some interest in participating in this fantastic event. I am happy to provide answers to questions or information on local tourism attractions, accommodations, etc. If you have suggestions as to other groups that might have an interest, please share that, too, and I will be glad to contact and invite them.

  • Thanks so much! I don't take the opportunity to check in often, but here I am!

    This invitation is for you!

Please remind members that this year's event promises to be a great venue for all German manufactured vehicles, and we really want to see them all! There is still room for more registrants, so please take a moment to check the website - http://www.grandprixfestival.com - for photos from past Stone Bridge Driver events - Tour de Marque in particular, information, local links and registration forms.
