• Tom was a great friend and long time supporter of Opels from the Pittsburgh, PA area. He rarely missed a meet on the East coast. Tom passed away in December 2011 due to complications from Crohns disease. His memory lives on with the "Tom Cavataio Spirit" award presented each year at the Opels at Carlisle event.

Tom was also deeply involved with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America. Crohn's is a disease that claimed his girlfriend Bridget and one that Tom danced with for too many years.

A scholarship fund has been created in Tom's name at the CCFA. It is used to send kids with Crohn's disease to a special camp called Camp Oasis where all of the kids have Crohn's. Tom was a counselor there one year.

If anyone would like to donate, they can send their donations to the local chapter:
    CCFA WPA/WV chapter
    300 Penn Center Boulevard,
    Suite 401
    Pittsburgh Pa. 15235
They are already set up for donations. Just mention Tom Cavataio and all donations go to this fund.

Please note that only donations made to the local chapter will go toward the scholarship. All other donations end up in a general fund.

  • I've been all over the CCFA website to donate and while they have references to Camp Oasis having a scholarship fund in Tom's name, they do not have a way to donate solely to that fund. When clicking links to donate to support Camp Oasis, it always takes you back to the general CCFA donation site. I'm attempting to donate on behalf of the Georgia Opel Club the funds I've collected for this fund and can't find out how to do it online or via the Georgia Chapter. Do you have a better link or more information? (Especially for someone who does not write checks anymore)

Life is too short to drive boring cars or drink boring beers. Just don't do them at the same time.

  • Thank you. I'm contacting the WVA/WPA chapter to find out how to make donations electronically. As soon as I find that out, I'll post it here for those of us who have abandoned checkbooks.

Just got the following email from them for those that don't write checks (note the new address for those that still use paper to pay for things).

Hi, Dan - Thank you for checking in and for your generosity. I have a Square account so we can take a credit card over the phone, and we can also put a credit card in our system. I will be out of the office until Monday morning but please give me a call! Thank you and have a good weekend,JuliJulianna LawrenceExecutive DirectorCrohn's & Colitis Foundation of AmericaWestern Pennsylvania/West Virginia Chapter5001 Baum Blvd. Suite 635Pittsburgh, PA 15213Tel: (412) 823-8272 Fax: (412) 823-8276jlawrence@ccfa.orgwww.ccfa.org
