I notice that there is a number on forums and gallery and I believe it indicates posts I haven't read yet. My question is with regard to chat. Can a number be made to appear to show when someone is in chat? It makes it easier to get a group going.

You are correct on the "numbers" Vickie. Also if someone is in the Chat Room it will list them on the top of the Dashboard (Main) page.

The Shoutbox is for quick shouts to members. The Chat Room is for longer conversations. You can also create new "Rooms" in the Chat area.
If I might make an odd suggestion. In the online gaming world, gamers (yes, I am one thats how I know this) tend to use VOIP for communicating while playing online. I do not know how you are hosting the site here, or if it's feasible, but if you were to have a TeamSpeak (https://www.teamspeak.com/downloads) server set up (it's free for non commercial purposes) it would give a whole new dimension to "chatting about Opels" and or helping each other out, because you know it's way easier to explain something with ones vocal cords then it is to do so with ones fingers. Just a thought.
